Dawn Chorus Ignites - Gilmmer EP (Distant Noise Records)

Waking up with a hangover of Withnail and I proportions is not exactly the best start to the day. The day in question actually got much easier and less painful thanks to the opiating calmness provided by DCI.

Chiming minimalist delays twinkle and shine, releasing all tension and unease throughout the whole body and mind. This is better than pain killers and much more organic. Sparse drums signal slow motion, just the right pace for taking things easy. This is the musical equivalent of huge down pillows and 14.5 tog duvets on days of woe--all enveloping and all comforting. A rhythmic blanket that gives a sense of serene security.

Mixing ambience with mournful yet uplifting post rock, DCI have created the ultimate tonal hangover cure. Mix with water and good food and you are home and dry.

Even though the EP contains 5 tracks, you really get the feeling of wholeness when the record stops. I think if the EP is anything to go by, then this band have masses to offer. I just hope I get to review the next release in a better state and if not, I know I will feel a lot more salubrious after hearing DCI…
