Asbestoscape - Asbestoscape. "Music from the Clouds."

Asbestoscape have bottled the feeling of tangible electricity that you feel before a storm. The one that broods and hangs heavily in anticipation, ready to explode and disturb your fragile equilibrium.

Asbestoscape have shaken it up and thrown it into the sky, and they chase what is ready to crack and explode, dragging you headlong into the wall clouds.

Brooding, menacing and bewitching.  Like an electrical storm, Asbestoscope's music has a tempestuous beauty that has a fascinating hold over you like staring at a coruscating sky.

Musically, the atmosphere here is dark

Here we review this Self Titled release:

"Arctic"
In this song, pulsating bass lines rumble, drums pound and synths flow. Delay soaked guitars push the song along, and although this band could be considered Post Rock, they fortunately do not meander and hang around enough for that genre. It's refreshing to hear instrumental music that has a beat-- it drives-- it keeps you interested and when it finally does break, run for shelter!

"Return"
Starts slower than the first track and has great use of electronic drum beats. Again, the mood is pensive, a bit like a darker Meanwhile Back In Communist Russia without the lyrics. Not as strong as the first track but had my attention.

"Mono"
Droning synth washes, cascading electric drum beats and expansive guitars drowned in delay are the order of the day on this track. This is fucking scary, excuse my French, but you really wouldn't want to hear music like this, whilst walking around a dark town at night, would you? Ok, so would I!

"And So The Story Goes..."
A distant piano echos on the intro, and the guitars and synths appear from nowhere and straight away a wonderfully bleak tonal unease is felt. The drums rattle a death march and you feel a dark lustful desire for all things unchaste. Think Mogwai gone Post Death Rock.

"Like Shit Attracting Flies"
Not only a great song title but one of the many stand out tracks on this demo.
A perfect guitar intro... then bang. The sound of your world falling apart whilst you watch and smile wryly at the beginning and end of everything you held dear; all that is left is the music and it's more than enough. Cinematic, claustrophobic and downright furious, this track is an instrumental tale of destruction.

"Ashen"
The shortest track on the CD (2.42) but also one of the most experimental.
The originality of the spiralling guitar at the start paves way for one of the most amazing and compelling drum beats I've heard for let's say, forever. Distorted minor key guitar riffs rise and swell with each beat something new and more foreboding appears and then the calm...it's over.

"Thursday"
A harrowing guitar riff begins and you just know that this song is about to pull out your heart strings.
With each second in Thursday, unease is felt, you just want to know exactly what is going to happen. Something is going to break, anguish, uncertainty and claustrophobia. Then it fades out...

I have weathered the storm, I stared into the eye and was fascinated...
I heard and saw things I did not expect. I was a voyeur and I was frightened...

I want to do it all again...

Press play...
